Welcome to the Central Record Office (CRO)

The Central Record Office (CRO) is an integral part of the Services General Administration & Coordination Department, Government of Sindh, dedicated to the preservation, management, and accessibility of government records. Established to safeguard the historical and administrative records of Sindh, the CRO ensures that these valuable documents are meticulously curated, managed, and preserved for future generations.

Our Mission

Our mission is to collect, curate, manage, and preserve non-current records of the Government of Sindh and other public bodies. We aim to ensure that records of enduring value, significant to the history, administration, and governance of the region, are maintained in a secure environment, easily accessible for reference and research.

Our Functions

The Central Record Office plays a pivotal role in the lifecycle of government records. Our key functions include:

  • Collecting and Curating Records: We gather records from various government departments, field offices, and public bodies. These records include legislative documents, policy papers, historical files, contracts, agreements, and other vital records that are no longer in active use but hold significant value.
  • Managing Non-Current Records: The CRO categorizes records based on their significance and retention requirements, ensuring proper handling, indexing, and preservation. Records are managed according to their type—whether they need permanent retention, temporary retention, or scheduled destruction.
  • Preservation and Conservation: Ensuring the physical and digital preservation of records is a core responsibility of the CRO. We employ modern techniques to safeguard documents, ensuring they remain intact and accessible for future generations.
  • Rebuilding Lost Records: We are committed to the resurrection of lost historical records, collaborating with local and international bodies to recover valuable documents that have been misplaced or damaged over the years.
  • Guiding and Regulating Record Management: The CRO, through its Management Committee, provides guidelines and oversight to various government departments and public bodies on the proper handling, categorization, and transfer of records.

Our Vision

To be the leading custodian of the historical and administrative memory of Sindh, ensuring the accessibility, integrity, and preservation of government records. We strive to maintain a transparent and organized record-keeping system that supports governance, accountability, and public access to information.
